Whether your favorite network is Facebook, Twitter or Google+, there are a few things you should avoid if you want to grow your community and build relationships with your social network presence.

Here are seven things you shouldn’t do when using social media for business.

Many small business owners follow up on social media because they need to tell everyone, but they avoid the research and planning phase. As with any other marketing activity, it is important to take the time to get to know the networks you join, set smart goals for your use on the platforms, and take action to reach your goals.

Social media can feel like a celebrity game. The “cool” kids, who have been around for a while and have made great strides, all seem to be falling behind. To raise your stance and grow at a faster pace you can make a public figure or be less than 100% genuine. This is not a good idea, it can not only hurt your reputation, but can hurt your brand in the long run.

Ignore everyone

You are acting as if you have a quick way to social media failure.
While your social media presence is for your brand and not for you personally, you can still find success when you exert a little personality in your contacts. It can be as simple as retweets and thanks to people who like Facebook, share your personal side a little, offering your expertise to help others.

Spam your fans, followers, circles

Spam is not just for email; it has entered the social media world. Finding out what spamming is on social platforms is tricky, because there is no "option". Some forms of social media are spamming away with nothing but selling notifications, posting the same updates, and sending personalized messages after being asked to do so.

Be disgusting, disgusting and confrontational

One of the biggest revenues on social media platforms, especially in business circles, is people who are attacking their competitors, abusive or generally offensive. When using social media for business, it is important to stay professional and avoid the temptation and exposure to your grief. It does not stop with you.
